Dalgona is all over the internet now thanks to the dalgona coffee trend that originated in Korea. It is actually from a sweet old fashioned sugar candy and is famous Korean street food. It is loved by everyone for its sweet caramel taste that melts in your mouth.
Dalgona (달고나), also known as Ppopgi (뽑기) in other regions. It is a kids favorite sweet treat. It also has a funny slang which is Ttong-gwaja that literally means Poop cookie because of its color. Dalgona is believed to have appeared in the 1960s somewhere in Busan and raised popularity in the 70s and 80s.
Korean adults often feel nostalgic whenever they eat this candy and somehow bring back their childhood memories. In almost every elementary school in Korea, you will see a dalgona vendor just across the street.
The ingredients are very simple and are very easy to make. It is just basically sugar and baking soda, and that’s it! You will need just to press it after melting the mixture. You can even make fun shapes like hearts or stars to attract kids.
